So it is done. I've officially thrown in my lot with evil. I have ordered a 2.2 GHz, white MacBook. I upgraded the RAM to 2GB and am getting a VGA adapter with it for all those presentations that I seem to be assigned. (Plus, then I can put anime and Hamlet on a projector should I have access to it someday... >_>)

So now I need help in choosing a name. My first laptop was Chronos, a Dell. The second, failing soul, is Orpheus, also a Dell. I will admit some slight fear that this may be a Greek thing. This does discourage me from naming my new one Hermes Mercurius Trismegistus in a fit of madness (okay, so that's largely Latin, and the guy was Middle Eastern... all three of them... but the first name is Greek!). Do I join Janelle and throw in my lot with the Japanese? Do I take a leaf from Urusla and call it Ganesh (tell me that wouldn't be cool...)? Do I name it Brian? Or do I go somewhere else altogether?

I named mine Julian after Julian of Norwich. My desktop is named Tintagel.

I don't like Macs.

That's...er, all I really have to contribute at this time. SHIPS SHIPS BOATS BOATS LOL LATIN.

Woot!

If you need any help with anything, let me know. I'm not a power user by any stretch of the word, but I do know my way around Mac OS well enough. : )

Names, however, you're on your own. I never did get into the whole naming inanimate objects thing. Through from what Wiki has on the elephant god, I'd say Remover of Obstacles would fit a Mac pretty well, especially given your recent history with PCs. :P

Don't name it after a god, especially one with plenty of followers - Greek gods and goddesses are okay, because they've largely fallen out of favor with the general populace (when was the last time someone mentioned going to the Zeus temple? in real life, not some dead latin poet). The Ganesh thing would piss a lot of people off, although if you don't personally know any hindus, it wouldn't really come up with you. I would be just as annoyed if a non-Christian named their laptop Yahweh, or even the Immaculate Conception, even if it was done with some modicum of respect.

I'll admit, it completely slipped my mind that a god in a pantheon may have followers today. I'm so used to the Greeks or the Romans or the Celts whose gods and goddesses have no followers worth noting that I forgot that the same does not apply to Hindu gods and goddesses, especially as, to my knowledge, I really do not know any Hindus at all.

Eh, pretty much anything will offend someone somewhere these days. I say do what you want to do and if someone has a problem with it, that's their problem. Get over it or fuck off.

Blanche? It IS white, after all. Just a thought. Names are hard to choose for your beauties. ^_^; Congrats on getting your MacBook. It looks awesome. I like Macs myself. I just don't have the budget a Mac would like. So I guess I'm sticking with XP/Ubuntu. But if I had the choice and the money, Mac me! [giggles]

I'll be getting a laptop either for Christmas or my birthday. The only difference between timing is 2 months apart. I'm gonna have fun naming mine. Probably a Japanese name or a Scottish name or some other fondness-term goodness.

Have fun with your naming. Its sooo much easier to call it a name rather than Computer Make Model 123456789XRRS etc.
